NAIROBI, Jan 4, 2008 (AFP) - Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki on Friday met South African Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu, who is in the country in a bid to broker an end to the political crisis that erupted after disputed presidential elections, an official said.
The agenda of the meeting at Kibaki's official residence in Nairobi remained unclear as the government had initially rejected foreign mediation attempts and stated that Tutu had not been invited.
On Thursday, the archibishop held talks with opposition Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga, who says he was robbed of election victory by state-engineered rigging.
The electoral commission's announcement on Sunday that Kibaki was the winner of the December 27 poll touched off riots and tribal violence across the country, that has killed more than 300 people.
