RUSTENBURG, South Africa, Feb 16, 2008 (AFP) - Platinum Stars of South Africa scored three times in six minutes en route to a 4-0 victory over Correctional Services of Lesotho Saturday in the African Champions League.

The goal blitz was triggered by Solomon Mathe after 15 minutes in this north-west mining town and Daniel 'Sailor' Tshabalala and Koketso Mmotong were also on target in the first round, first leg game.

But the small crowd at sun-drenched Olympia Park had to wait until the second minute of stoppage time for the final goal from substitute Collen Makgopela.

It was a dream debut in the premier Confederation of African Football club competition by Stars, who were formed only 10 years ago, and a second-round showdown with Tamponnaise of Reunion or Saint Michel of Seychelles looms.

Whoever wins that tie is likely to face mighty Al-Ahly, the Cairo club that has won the competition a record-equalling five times and supplied several key figures in the Egypt 2008 Nations Cup-winning team.

On this showing, Platinum would stand little chance against the Egyptian 'Red Devils' as they failed to finish off Services when they had the prison warders on the rack during the opening half.

Mathe opened the scoring with a rising shot from close range, Tshabalala headed home a free kick off a Lesotho defender, and Mmotong raced through to plant the ball into the corner.

The visiting players received a tongue lashing from their captain and it had the desired effect although Services had a let off just before half-time when a speculative long-range shot from Joseph Mkalipa hit the top of the crossbar.

Platinum squandered several chances before Makgopela completed the scoring from close range and virtually assured a sixth consecutive African Champions League success for South Africa over tiny neighbours Lesotho.
