SYLVANIA, July 12, 2008 (AFP) - Paula Creamer fired a six-under par 65 here Friday to stretch her lead to six strokes after the second round of the 1.3 million-dollar LPGA Jamie Farr Classic.
The 21-year-old American followed up a course-record 11-under 60 Thursday with seven birdies and a single bogey to stand on 17-under par 125 after 36 holes with South Korean Ji Eun-Hee second on 131 after a 66 Friday.
'I didn't really hit the ball well,' Creamer said. 'I missed a lot of fairways. I never really got on a roll, kind of just throwing darts at the flag.'
Creamer was on target most of the time, taking her only bogey at the par-4 fourth and settling for a finish that was one stroke shy of the LPGA record for 36 holes.
'Friday was probably one of the hardest rounds that I've had,' Creamer said. 'You come out and shoot 60 Thursday and anything above that feels like you are not playing that great.
'However, I'm pleased with the way I'm playing and with where I am at going into the weekend.'
Australian Rachel Hetherington and Korean Choi Hye-Jung Choi shared third, 10 strokes off the pace, with Canada's Alena Sharp, Korean Young Kim, American Stacy Lewis and Britain's Janice Moodie all on 136.
Creamer seeks the third title of her fourth LPGA season, which would pull her level with former world number one for second on the season win list behind world number one Lorena Ochoa of Mexico, a six-time winner in 2008.
Both Ochoa and Sorenstam are skipping this week's event.
Ji, 21, won her first LPGA title last month. She had two birdies on the front nine and three more on the back side but remained stunned by her partner in Saturday's final pairing.
'Paula has been incredible and her score, it's unbelievable,' Ji said. 'So for me, rather than trying to chase her down or to beat her, I just want to focus on my game, my score and see where that takes me.'
Hetherington, who made four birdies, has not given up hope of catching Creamer.
'I have to go out and see if I can run her down,' Hetherington said. 'I have got to play solid and hit good shots to score over the next two days. With the leader quite a few out in front you've got to keep playing good golf and charging along.'
