STOCKHOLM, July 16, 2008 (AFP) - A Rwandan man suspected of taking part in the Rwanda genocide in 1994 was arrested in the Stockholm suburb of Solna on Wednesday, police said.

The man was at the Rwandan embassy in Solna on an errand with wife on Wednesday when embassy staff allegedly recognised him as having been involved in the genocide, police spokesman Mats Eriksson told AFP.

'The embassy contacted police because he is wanted for genocide and violation of international law,' Eriksson said.

A prosecutor ordered the man to be held for questioning, after which he was placed in police custody pending an investigation, Eriksson said.

The man's identity was not disclosed, but Eriksson said he was a resident of Denmark. No details were available about the charges against him.

The man was accused of a similar crime in Denmark several years ago but was acquitted, he said.

'There are apparently new circumstances now that have arisen and made him a wanted man again,' Eriksson said.
