LAGOS, July 22, 2008 (AFP) - The convoy of the governor of Nigeria's southeastern state of Abia came under fire on Tuesday from unknown gunmen who made off with a support vehicle, local television reported.

No one was hurt in the incident which happened while the convoy was on its way to the airport to pick up the governor, Theodore Orji, the reports said.

Orji's election in April 2007 is still being contested in court by a rival candidate from the country's ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
