BERLIN, July 26, 2008 (AFP) - Sixty-two percent of Germans agree that US Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama gave a 'great speech' when he visited Berlin, according to a poll to be published Sunday.
Only 19 percent of the 500 people surveyed had a contrary view, according to the poll conducted by Emnid for the weekly Bild am Sonntag newspaper.
Sixty-three percent of those polled believed an Obama administration in the White House would be good for Germany, against 20 percent who disagreed.
In Germany, where he was feted like a rock star, 200,000 people turned out to hear his campaign speech in the capital, the only one he has given while abroad.
In it the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate called on a new generation on both sides of the Atlantic to tear down walls between races and religions to rise to the challenges facing the planet.
