BEIJING, July 31, 2008 (AFP) - China accused Thursday US lawmakers of trying to politicise the Beijing Olympic Games and urged Washington to curb the 'odious conduct' of anti-Chinese legislators.

Foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao was reacting to a House of Representatives resolution that called on Beijing to live up to Olympic ideals by ending human rights abuses and repression of Tibetan and Uighur ethnic minorities.

'We have made solemn representations to the US Administration and Congress and urged them to firmly curb the odious conduct of a handful of anti-China lawmakers,' Liu said.

The resolution has 'disclosed their malicious intent to politicise the Olympic Games, and interrupt and sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games,' Liu said in a statement on his ministry's website.
