ROME, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - A German climber died Wednesday and two others were seriously injured in an accident at a mountain on the Swiss-Italian border, Italian rescue workers said.
'Four mountaineers fell into a crevasse this morning while climbing Liskamm,' Adriano Favre, a mountain rescue worker from the northern Italian Aosta Valley region told AFP.
'One of them, a German, died,' he said. 'Three others were injured, of whom two are in a serious condition.'
Favre said rescue operations were under way, adding: 'We are trying to recover the body.'
Liskamm is a high ridge, steep on each side, and heavily glaciated. It is the eighth highest Alpine peak at 4,527 metres (14,852 feet).
