VIENNA, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - A tram called Israel has begun touring Vienna's city centre with films, photos and food, in a bid to paint a different picture of the small country than what is regularly seen on the news.

'It's an original way to show our country from a cultural and scientific point of view, as well as the nightlife or the attractions on our beaches,' said Guy Feldman from the Israeli embassy, who initiated the project.

Visitors can now sample free falafels, Israeli wines and other specialities on a traditional Viennese tram, decorated with images of Israeli cities, nature and culture, while travelling along the Ring boulevard surrounding the city centre.

The tram will run three times a week and starting in January, 'Israel' will also offer exhibits, movie screenings and dance parties.

The project is due to continue until January.
