ZAGREB, August 6, 2008 (AFP) - World high-jumping champion Blanka Vlasic said Wednesday she was confident of continuing her 34-meet winning streak in all competitions at this month's Olympic Games.
'I know that I'm going to Beijing as the biggest favorite for the gold medal. My results speak for themselves,' Vlasic was quoted as telling the Croatian daily Slobodna Dalmacija.
'I'm not running from that role, on the contrary I will meet head on that challenge,' the 24-year-old added.
Vlasic won gold at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka by clearing 2.05m and set a personal best of 2.07m at a Stockholm meet later that year, just short of the world record 2.09m.
Vlasic, who is the strongest medal prospect in the Croatia Olympic team of some 100 athletes, is currently training in the coastal town of Split.
