GENEVA, August 8, 2008 (AFP) - Swiss hotels suffered a 2.6 percent drop in business in June compared with the same month last year despite Euro 2008, Federal Statistics Office figures released on Friday show.
There were 3.2 million hotel nights recorded in June this year, 86,000 less than in June 2007. This year's European football championships, hosted jointly by Switzerland and Austria, lasted from June 7-29.
Swiss people accounted for a five percent drop, while foreign visitors were down by 1.1 percent in spite of the huge influx of fans following their teams.
However guests from the Netherlands, Romania, Italy, France and the Czech Republic were up.
