BANJUL, August 12, 2008 (AFP) - An admiral who allegedly led a coup bid last week in the impoverished west African country of Guinea Bissau was arrested in nearby Gambia, Gambian authorities said Tuesday.

'The government of the Gambia hereby announces the arrest in the Gambia of Rear Admiral Jose Americo Bubo Na Tchute, alleged leader of the coup plot foiled in Guinea Bissau on 6th August 2008,' a statement from the Gambian president's office said.
