PARIS, August 13, 2008 (AFP) - French President Nicolas Sarkozy Wednesday said his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev had pledged to honour a six-point agreement brokered by France to end hostilities with Georgia, according to an official statement.

'The president of the republic held a lengthy telephone conversation with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev early this evening,' Sarkozy's office said in a statement.

Sarkozy 'received assurances from President Medvedev that Russia will respect the engagements it has committed to.'
