SOFIA, August 14, 2008 (AFP) - Levski Sofia coach Velislav Vutsov has resigned after his Bulgarian side's 1-0 Champions League third qualifying round loss to Belarus's BATE Borisov, BTA news agency reported on Thursday.

'After the match Levski's owner told me to resign or be sacked, so I decided to quit,' Vutsov was quoted as saying after wednesday's defeat.

'I put my heart and soul in my work. But it is not up to me to score goals,' he said.

Levski captain Georgy Ivanov missed a penalty in the 30th minute of the match.

Forty-one year old Vutsov took over at Levski in May following the sacking of former coach Stanimir Stoilov.

Assistant coach Emil Velev has been named as his replacement.
