BUDPAEST, August 14, 2008 (AFP) - The Hungarian economy grew by 0.6 percent on a quarterly basis in the second quarter, the same figure as in the preceding three months, the central statistics office KSH said on Thursday.
On a 12-month basis, Hungary's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 2.1 percent in the period from April to June, much faster than the 1.0 percent recorded in the first quarter, KSH calculated in preliminary data.
Hungary's second-quarter performance was slightly better than analysts had been expecting, who had been pencilling in year-on-year growth of 2.0 percent for the April-June period.
