BRNO, August 17, 2008 (AFP) - Spain's Alex Debon, riding for Aprilia, made an audacious attack on the last lap to dramatically win the Czech Republic Grand Prix 250cc class here on Sunday.

Fellow countryman Alvaro Bautista placed second with championship leader Marco Simoncelli, who started on pole, coming over in third.

Debon left it late to record his second career victory, stealthily slipping past leader Italian Simoncelli in the dying seconds of the Brno race to post a time of 41min 08.168sec.

Bautista, who rides for Mapfre Aspar Team, also mounted a late challenge on the under-pressure Italian, narrowly pipping him on the line.

Simoncelli, who rides for Metis Gilera, now extends his lead at the top of the standings.

Red Bull's Finn Mika Kallio, second in the championship, came in fifth behind Hector Barbera, of Aprilia.
