LONDON, August 18, 2008 (AFP) - More than 30 people were injured, three of them seriously, after a coach crashed with a car in central England, emergency services said.

Seven people are still in the wreckage in the village of Alton, Staffordshire, after the crash just before 6:00 pm (1700 GMT), and a 20-year-old woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, a hospital spokeswoman said.

'Up to seven people are still trapped in the coach, but it's changing all the time,' West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray McGregor told the BBC, describing the situation as 'very serious'.

'Three people are very seriously injured and up to 30 people are walking wounded.'

Eight ambulances, four rapid response cars, two helicopters and a doctor have been sent to the scene of the crash.
