THE HAGUE, August 29, 2008 (AFP) - Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic on Friday made his second appearance before the UN's Yugoslav War Crimes court which is trying him for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Karadzic, 63, was arrested in Belgrade six weeks ago, 13 years after the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia issued an indictment against him over a campaign of 'ethnic cleansing' during the 1992-95 Bosnian war in which 100,000 people died.

The charges against Karadzic include the 44-month siege of Sarajevo that left 10,000 dead, and the July 1995 massacre of around 8,000 Muslim men and boys in the UN-protected area of Srebrenica.

Karadzic is due to enter a plea during Friday's proceedings. If he declines, a plea of not guilty will automatically be entered on his behalf.

The trial is not due to start for several months.
