BERLIN, Sept 27, 2008 (AFP) - Bayern Munich coach Jurgen Klinsmann said his side's second consecutive Bundesliga defeat was 'unnecessary and annoying' as they prepare to face Lyon in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Bayern top Champions League Group F after beating Steaua Bucharest in Romania, but with two defeats in their last two league games - including a brutal 5-2 pounding by Werder Bremen - Bayern are anything but confident.

Not even the return of their French midfield magician Franck Ribery after three months out with an ankle injury helped them on Saturday as they lost 1-0 at struggling Hanover which left the defending champions ninth in the league.

'It was a very unnecessary and very annoying defeat,' fumed Klinsmann on German television Premiere.

'We began well, but after falling behind we lost our rhythm.

'To improve, we need to get back the things which are missing: creativity, some cleverness on the ball and hard work off the ball.

'This defeat has hurt us, but we have to take it on the chin.'

Bayern's Germany defender Philipp Lahm rarely finishes on a losing side, but after his second defeat in a week, he said poor passes and too many mistakes have cost his side dearly.

'Defensively, we played better than against Bremen,' said Lahm.

'But we went forward too little and we gave away too many passes.

'Hanover took the lead which gave them some confidence and it helped to lift their confidence which made life hard for us.'

And Hanover coach Dieter Hecking said Lyon can learn from his side by constantly harrassing the Bayern defence.

'Before the game, I asked the team to keep probing the Bayern defence and the chances would come their way, which is exactly what happened,' said Hecking.'
