MUNICH, Germany, Oct 1, 2008 (AFP) - Bayern Munich's bosses were all smiles on Wednesday after their 1-1 Champions League draw at home against Olympique Lyon which eased the pressure on under-fire coach Jurgen Klinsmann.

A Martin Demichelis own goal gave Claude Puel's Lyon side a first-half lead in Munich before Brazilian Ze Roberto's header seven minutes into the second half equalised to give Bayern a two-point gap at the top of Group F.

Bayern manager Uli Hoeness said the draw was 'as good as a win' while chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added 'we can be hopeful about the future'.

But Klinsmann was the target of jeers and whistles by a section of the Bayern crowd on Tuesday night although his side finished strongly and should have won the game after squandering a string of chances.

There have been grumblings of discontent around the club since a lacklustre Munich team were slaughtered 5-2 at home on September 20 by Bundesliga rivals Werder Bremen.

Klinsmann says he is happy his side top their group, but would have prefered them to take three points and he praised defender Demichelis for his hard work - despite his second-half yellow card and first-half own goal.

'We would have obviously preferred to win and had a lot of pressure, especially in the second half - but it wasn't our day,' said Klinsmann.

'Martin Demichelis did a lot of work on the pitch; in the first half he was very unlucky with his own goal, but later on, he fought like a lion.

'Our team is still searching to find their shape and this is a continuing process.

'But that's normal, after losing a strong captain like Oliver Kahn (who retired in May).

'We must focus on our tasks and always try to have a positive attitude for the future.'

Having made Mark van Bommel Bayern captain, Klinsmann again left his skipper on the bench saying: 'He must learn to understand our system. He has problems in the implementation of our game.'

Lyon coach Puel was pleased his side picked up a valuable away point with their captain and play-maker Juninho a constant threat to Bayern.

'This is a pretty good result for us, even if a victory would have been better,' he said.

'But in the end, the draw is fair.

'Bayern played very well, particularly in the second half.

'Our players made great efforts.

'The team played very courageously going forward and we were strong especially in the first half.

'We had a lot of chances and if we had been more efficient we could have won the match.

'Bayern were not able to play in their usual dangerous attacking style.

'We lost our rhythm in the second half, played more defensively and became more and more tired.

'So we weren't able to beat this strong team.

'Our group is very tough, every match is as tight as this one.'

Bayern's next game in Group F is against Italian side Fiorentina at Munich's Allianz Arena on October 21 the same night Lyon play Steaua Bucharest in Romania.
