PARIS, Oct 2, 2008 (AFP) - French rescuers were scouring Atlantic waters Thursday for an air force pilot missing off the coast of Brittany after two fighter jets collided during a training exercise, navy officials said.
Rescuers found another pilot who ejected safely from his Super Etendard jet Wednesday evening and also recovered an empty survival raft belonging to his missing comrade.
Two helicopters, a spotter plane and two boats were mobilised in the rescue effort in the Bay of Lannion in France's northern Brittany region.
The attack jets crashed on Wednesday during a training exercise involving four planes from the Landivisiau air base.
A naval vessel arrived in the zone overnight and was to launch a small remote-controlled submarine to locate the wreckage of the two fighters.
