GLASGOW, Oct 2, 2008 (AFP) - Chris Iwelumo's freescoring form for Championship pacesetters Wolves has earned him a call up to the Scotland squad at the age of 30.

Iwelumo has hit the net eight times in seven matches for Wolves this season and succeeded in catching the eye of manager George Burley ahead of the October 11 World Cup qualifier against Norway at Hampden Park.

Burley created a minor surprise by recalling Bristol City defender Jamie McAllister, whose only cap came against Trinidad and Tobago more than four years ago.

Iwelumo, who is of Nigerian heritage on his father's side, played for Scotland B last year in a 1-1 friendly draw against Ireland.

He made headlines last month after scoring a hat-trick against Preston before being sent off for appearing to headbutt Sean St Ledger.

The defender backed up Iwelumo's claim that the contact had been non-intentional but Wolves failed in an appeal against the red card.

As a result Iwelumo will not have played for three weeks by the time Scotland take on the Norwegians but Burley nevertheless thought it was worth including the 6' 4' (1.92m) striker.

Scotland are without regular captain Barry Ferguson, who is recovering from ankle surgery, but otherwise Burley has a near full-strength squad at his disposal.

The Scots started their campaign to reach South Africa 2010 with a disappointing 1-0 defeat in Macedonia but bounced back to win 2-1 in Iceland last month.

Norway drew 2-2 at home to Iceland in their only match so far in group nine, which also includes Holland.
