PARIS, Oct 3, 2008 (AFP) - French stocks edged up 0.34 percent to 3,977.15 points in initial trading on Friday, when US lawmakers were due to vote on their government's massive rescue plan for the stricken financial sector.

In Paris the CAC 40 index of leading stocks had closed sharply down by 2.25 percent on Thursday.
