NAIROBI, Oct 3, 2008 (AFP) - A Kenyan court fined a Swiss tourist 10,000 shillings (137 dollars) for calling two policemen 'black monkeys', Daily Metro newspaper reported Friday.
Valentine Buchli paid the fine after being convicted on Thursday for breaching public peace by using the comment in the coastal town of Kilifi in October last year.
'In future, this court will take serious action against such offenders,' magistrate Peter Kiama warned.
The newspaper said Buchli had flagged down the two officers and started hurling abuse, including the 'black monkeys' slur, without provocation.
Kenya has no specific law against racism.
