LONDON, Oct 7, 2008 (AFP) - British manufacturing output in August fell 0.4 percent from July for the sixth monthly fall in a row and was down 1.9 percent on a 12-month basis, the Office for National Statistics said Tuesday.
The ONS said that a wider measure of industrial production, which includes mining, quarrying and energy, declined 0.6 percent in August from July and was down 2.3 percent year-on-year.
'Clearly the global and domestic downturns are taking their toll on industry despite the lower pound,' said Capital Economics analyst Paul Dales.
