BANGKOK, Oct 7, 2008 (AFP) - A female protester was killed Tuesday during clashes with police who fired tear gas to try and disperse thousands of demonstrators rallying outside parliament, a hospital official said.

'One woman protester died here. We don't know her name yet but she was in her 20s,' an official at Bangkok's Ramathibodi Hospital told AFP.

The official, who did not want to be named as she was not authorised to speak to the media, would not reveal the cause of death.

Clashes between anti-government protesters and police outside parliament on Tuesday left hundreds of people injured including two Thai policemen who were shot.
