OTTAWA, Oct 8, 2008 (AFP) - The International Monetary Fund's call for a coordinated international response to the global financial crisis got a nod from Canada Wednesday.

'The IMF has just released a report urging coordinated action concerning the world financial crisis,' Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said in a statement. 'I strongly endorse this call.'

He said also, Canada 'supports the idea put forward by President (Nicolas) Sarkozy of a leader's summit to review measures to strengthen the international financial system.'

Flaherty is set to meet with other finance ministers of the Group of Seven industrialized nations on Friday, in Washington.

He urged, 'given the continuing turbulence' in global financial markets that they meet again in the coming weeks to measure progress on rescue plans.
