The 12 group winners and best eight runners-up qualify for third-round draw in Zurich on October 24. Countries will be seeded based on second-round results, 2008 Nations Cup placings and latest FIFA rankings. The five third-round group winners qualify for 2010 World Cup with hosts South Africa and top three in each group qualify for 2010 Nations Cup with hosts Angola
