PORT-AU-PRINCE, Oct 11, 2008 (AFP) - Haiti denied El Salvador's bid to advance in South African World Cup 2010 qualifying here Saturday, playing the favored Salvadorans to a goal-less draw.
The Haitians kept alive their own hopes for advancing, improving to 0-2-2 with two points in Group C while El Salvador went to 2-1-1 for seven points with each having two matches remaining.
The Salvadorans can become one of six teams to reach next year's North American round-robin World Cup qualifying tournament with a victory Wednesday at winless Suriname.
Haiti must upset already-qualified Costa Rica, a 4-1 winner over Suriname on Saturday, in a Wednesday home match to have any hope of reaching the final six.
