Despite his 39th birthday rapidly approaching, former Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann wants another shot at the Champions League and plans to hit 40 next year still playing for VfB Stuttgart.

Lehmann turns 39 on November 10 and although ex-Stuttgart shot-stopper Timo Hildebrand is tipped to return from Valencia, Lehmann wants to keep his place to help his side qualify for the Champions League again.

But having played in front of packed stadiums with Arsenal for the last five seasons before his summer return to the Bundesliga, Lehmann admitted running out in front of small crowds for recent home UEFA Cup games has been difficult.

`The cup games in front of just 2000 spectators against Gyor and Varna disillusioned me a little bit, but a place in the Champions League is still our target,` said Lehmann.

`It is something we must strive to achieve.`

Stuttgart were fourth in the Bundesliga before Wednesday night`s Bundesliga clash against Hamburg and will need to finish in the top three next May to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Lehmann became the first goalkeeper sent off in a Champions League final when his side lost 2-1 to Barcelona in Paris on May 17 2006.

Despite announcing his international retirement in August, Lehmann says he wants to make his swansong with die Mannschaft in the friendly against England on November 19 at Berlin`s Olympic Stadium.

Lehmann experienced arguably his finest hour in the Germany shirt at the Olympic Stadium on June 30 2006 when he saved twice in the penalty shoot-out against Arnegtina to put his side in the World Cup semi-final.

`I would like to play against England, which is an obvious opponent after my years in London,` said Lehmann.

Germany coach Joachim Loew is set to announce his squad for the England game next week.
