South Africa`s ruling party dissidents will on Monday register the name of their new movement with the electoral commission, a breakway chief told national radio Monday.
The new party would be called the South African Democratic Congress (SADC), said Mbazima Shilowa, former premier of South Africa`s richest province Gauteng.
A resolution to form a new party to contest the year`s election was taken during a national convention in Johannesburg over the weekend.
The idea to form a rival party was spearheaded by former members of the African National Congress, who resigned from the ruling party after a fall out with its leadership following the ouster of former president Thabo Mbeki in September.
`We are not doing this for or with Thabo Mbeki. He is not involved in the formation, he is not one of us,` Shilowa told the radio SA FM.
