A Venezuelan man was convicted Monday of acting as an illegal foreign agent on behalf of the Venezuelan government, in connection with an illicit campaign gift in Argentina`s presidential election.

Following an eight-week trial, Franklin Duran, 41, was found guilty of trying to cover up the purpose of a suitcase packed with 800,000 dollars in cash, which prosecutors said was a campaign donation from Venezuela to now-President Cristina Kirchner.

Kirchner has denied the charges. Duran is a wealthy Venezuelan oilman who lives in Florida.
