A tourist plane carrying nine people crashed amid rush hour traffic in the center of Mexico city, local radio and witnesses reported Tuesday evening.

`The explosion was enormous, the flames rose higher than the buildings on Reforma,` the capital`s main avenue, a witness told AFP.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:00 pm (0000 GMT).

The number of casualties was as yet unclear.
