Barack Obama`s election as America`s first black president has brought Roy Jones extra inspiration and motivation for his Saturday light heavyweight bout against unbeaten Welshman Joe Calzaghe.

One day after Obama defeated John McCain for the US presidency, the 39-year-old black fighter who once had been considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world could not conceal his joy at the historic political victory.

`I want to say I am more proud to be an American now, more so than I have ever been in my life,` Jones said.

Jones, 39, has won three comeback bouts in a row by unanimous decisions since dropping three in a row from May of 2004 through November of 2005.

He said Calzaghe, who is 45-0, has taken his pound-for-pound throne and he wants to bring change to that title, using Obama`s change message.

`I`ve got another guy here who is the best pound-for-pound fighter right now, but I love change. This country`s about change, and I`m about change,` Jones said.
