Denver`s Carmelo Anthony said he wanted to score exactly 44 points Wednesday at Golden State to honor newly elected US president Barack Obama, who will be the 44th American president.
But things didn`t exactly go as planned for the National Basketball Association playmaker.
Anthony managed only 28 points in a losing cause as Golden State`s Stephen Jackson scored 29 to lead the Warriors past the Nuggets 111-101.
Denver jumped to a 35-28 lead after the first quarter but the Nuggets were outscored in every other quarter to fall.
Brazil`s Nene added 19 points for Denver while Dahntay Jones had 15.
Kelenna Azubuike added 22 for Golden State, which also had 18 from Brandan Wright.
Golden State improved to 2-3 this season by inflicting Denver`s third loss in four games.
