Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell said Friday it has contained a spill caused by sabotage on its Adibawa delivery line in southern Bayelsa state.
`There was a hacksaw cut on the delivery line,` which led to a spill, Shell spokesman Precious Okolobo told AFP in a text message.
He said the spill had been contained and that a clean-up of the impacted area was in progress.
Okolobo said the Adibawa delivery line had been sabotaged 19 times in the past year alone.
Sabotage at Shell`s facilities in the restive oil-rich Niger Delta has resulted in huge production losses for the company in the past three years.
Nigeria`s total production currently stands at around two million barrels a day against 2.6 million barrels in 2006.
