Former Tampa Bay safety John Lynch is retiring after a stellar 15-year National Football League career with the Buccaneers and Denver Broncos, FOX sports network reported on Friday.
The 37-year-old Lynch, who appeared in nine Pro Bowl games, is expected to make a more formal announcement on Monday.
He spent his first 11 NFL seasons with Tampa Bay before joining the Denver Broncos for four more. He tried out for but failed to make the New England Patriots at their training camp this year.
Lynch`s popularity in Tampa Bay reached a peak when he helped the Buccaneers win the 2003 Super Bowl.
`I had so many great years and so many great memories. I thought it would be appropriate,` Lynch told FOX. `I have no regrets. I got to live my childhood dream and play for two great organizations, much longer than you could ever hope for. The time was right to do it now.`
Known for his tenacious style, Lynch is likely to make it to the Hall of Fame. He registered 1,062 tackles, 26 sacks and 13 interceptions in 224 NFL games.
