Members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) were recently engaged in a gun duel with the Niger Delta militants in a bloody shoot-out in the Nigeria oil-rich creeks of Bayelsa State.

Reports from 93 Battalion, Effurun, Delta State , the headquarters of JTF, Op RH, revealed that the militants had stormed Opukushi and Harbour Creeks oilfields in Bayelsa State on Friday night.
Security sources stated that the militants invaded the oil locations in 15 speed boats.Findings by Sunday Punch revealed that the armed militants, who allegedly planned to dispossess the troops of their arms and ammunition as well as vandalise oil platforms

The Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre of JTF, Op RH, Lt. Col. Rabe Abubakar, who confirmed the report in a telephone interview on Saturday, however, said there was no casualty on the part of the security outfit in the encounter.
Abubakar said unspecified quantities of arms and ammunition as well as dynamites, were recovered from the youths.Abubakar said, “The militants attacked our locations in Opukushi and Harbour Creeks in Bayelsa State on Friday. They were probably looking for arms and ammunition. And may be they planned to attack some oil installations in the area.
