Sweden`s Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olof Mellberg have had special dispensation to be rested for Wednesday`s friendly international against Holland, a statement from the Swedish football federation said.
The 27-year-old Ibrahimovic, who scored both goals in Inter Milan`s 2-0 Italian league victory at Palermo on Saturday night, has had left knee problems throughout this year and his recent volume of matches has been high.
Sweden coaches Lars Lagerback and Roland Andersson said in a joint statement: `At the request of Zlatan and Olof, we have decided to rest them for the match against Holland.
`Zlatan has played two matches a week for some time. Olof also needs rest so we decided it was preferable and in their interests to not play them (on Wednesday).`
