Former St Helens coach Daniel Anderson has been appointed to take charge of the Parramatta Eels for the next three seasons, the Australian NRL club said Monday.

Anderson, 41, who enjoyed a successful spell in England, winning the Challenge Cup three times as well as the Super League Grand Final, replaces Michael Hagan, who quit last month.

Hagan resigned citing health and family reasons after a tumultuous season when the off-field behaviour of his players was as much of a concern as their inconsistent football.

Parramatta, who last won the championship in 1986, finished out of the finals in 11th place this year.
