A grenade attack against a Roma family in southern Hungary killed both parents and injured two of their children, local police said Wednesday, adding however that this was not a racist attack.

`Racism can be ruled out as a motive for the murder according to preliminary results of the investigation,` said police spokesman Peter Zsobrak.

The attack in Baranya county occurred Tuesday night.

`This was probably a settlement of scores,` Zsobrak said, noting that the father `was known to the police.`

`The perpetrators most likely threw a grenade through the windows of the family home in Pecs, and the owners lost their lives in the explosion that followed,` he added.

The parents were killed immediately while two of their children, aged three and five, were taken to hospital.

`The children suffered light injuries but are in a state of shock,` Zsobrak said. It was the third, older, child, who was unharmed in the attack, who had called the police.

On November 3, two Roma died in an armed attack with Molotov cocktails against their house in Nagycsecs in northeastern Hungary.
