Australian Open semi-finalist Li Na of China was bundled out of the second round of the Indian Wells hardcourt tennis tournament on Friday by British qualifier Elena Baltacha.
Baltacha, ranked 65th in the world, survived two match points in the third-set tiebreaker en route to a 7-6 (8/6), 2-6, 7-6 (9/7) victory over Li, the world number 10 who is seeded seventh here.
Li was part of an historic Chinese showing at the Australian Open, where both she and compatriot Zheng Jie made the semi-finals.
It was after that performance that she made her career top-10 debut on February 17 - the first Chinese player to claim a top-10 ranking.
Last month she reached the quarter-finals at Dubai, but retired from her quarter-final against Shahar Peer with a back injury.
Baltacha, who reached the quarter-finals in Memphis last month, next faces Australian Alicia Molik, a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7/3) winner over Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues.
