BHP Billiton posts 13.42 billion record dollar profit

MELBOURNE, Aug 22, 2007 (AFP) - BHP Billiton, the world's largest miner, posted a record 13.42 billion US dollar annual net profit Wednesday and delivered an upbeat outlook on the back of strong demand from China.

The Anglo-Australian giant said profits soared 28.4 percent on the previous year's 10.45 billion dollars as the company recorded its fourth consecutive annual net profit.

'In 2007 real prices for all our major commodities remained at or near their highest levels since the 1970s as Chinese demand for raw materials continued,' it said.

The Anglo-Australian giant said it achieved record production in eight commodities in the 12 months to June, delivering its fourth consecutive record annual profit.

BHP announces record production

SYDNEY, July 24, 2007 (AFP) - The world`s biggest miner, BHP Billiton, said Tuesday that it produced record levels of iron ore, copper, nickel, aluminium and metallurgical coal in the fiscal year to June.

The production data came ahead of the release of BHP Billiton`s full-year profit on August 22 when it is expected to report a record net income of about 13 billion US dollars, up from last year`s 10.45 billion dollars.
