MADRID, Oct 18, 2007 (AFP) - Spain's top anti-terrorist judge Thursday ordered more two senior members of a banned Basque separatist party held in jail for 'belonging to a terrorist organisation,' judicial sources said.

One of them, Gorka Diaz, presented himself voluntarily before the judge, Baltasar Garzon, who had issued a warrant for his arrest after a search of his home on Tuesday.

MADRID, Oct 16, 2007 (AFP) - A Spanish army officer in the Basque region of northern Spain was shot and injured near an army barracks in San Sebastian, police and medical officials told AFP on Tuesday.

Basque police were investigating whether the officer was shot by the Basque separatist organisation ETA or as a result of an unintentional discharge.

'There is not sufficient evidence to say that this was an attack,' but it is considered a possibility, said a Basque police officer.

MADRID, Oct 15, 2007 (AFP) - A Spanish army officer in the Basque region of northern Spain was shot and injured near an army barracks in San Sebastian on Monday, national radio reported citing Basque security sources.

Basque police were investigating whether the officer was shot by the Basque separatist organisation ETA or as a result of an unintentional discharge, the radio station said.

He was shot in the shoulder at around 10:00 pm (2000 GMT), was able to call the emergency services and was taken to hospital. It was not kwown how serious the injury was.

MADRID, Oct 15, 2007 (AFP) - Spanish police on Monday detained another senior member of Batasuna, the banned political wing of the armed Basque separatist group ETA, a judicial source said.

The arrest of Asier Imaz was ordered by top anti-terrorist judge Baltasar Garzon and is linked to the detention earlier this month of 17 other Batasuna leaders, the source said.

MADRID, Oct 14, 2007 (AFP) - The banned separatist Basque party Batasuna admitted Sunday that the arrest and detention of many of its leaders last week had 'hit us hard' but insisted the movement would not be silenced.

The decision by Spain's top anti-terrorist judge to detain 17 Batasuna leaders on October 7 'hit us hard, and hurt us', the political wing of armed group ETA said in a statement on the website of Basque newspaper Gara.

MADRID, Oct 11, 2007 (AFP) - A member of the Basque separatist movement ETA, already jailed for murder, was given 14 years in prison Thursday for threatening to kill top anti-terror judges Baltasar Garzon and Alfonso Guevara.

Inako Bilbao Goikoetxea, serving 45 years for the 2002 killing of a Socialist MP, had said he would 'pump seven bullets' into Guevara and to burn Garzon alive during a hearing in September.

Since the end of a 15-month ceasefire in June, the Socialist government -- facing a general election in six months -- has taken a much harder line against ETA.
