Nouakchott airport reopened after Mauritanian coup: security source

NOUAKCHOTT, August 7, 2008 (AFP) - The international airport of Nouakchott, closed down Wednesday after troops overthrew Mauritania's president in a military coup, was reopened in the evening, a security source said.

While the airport was closed for most of the day after the ousting of president Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, the country's land borders remained open.

TAM, Lufthansa to begin code-sharing

SAO PAULO, August 4, 2008 (AFP) - Brazil's TAM and Germany's Lufthansa are to being code-sharing on domestic and international flights starting August 18, the Brazilian airline said Monday.

The agreement will allow passengers to use TAM tickets on Lufthansa flights from Sao Paulo to Frankfurt or Munich, it said in a statement.

Pilot in Hungarian helicopter crash dies of injuries

BUDAPEST, August 4, 2008 (AFP) - The pilot of a rescue helicopter that crashed last week has died of injuries, the company that operated the helicopter announced on Monday.

'Janos Hatala, the pilot of the helicopter that crashed last Thursday, died of his injuries in the night from Sunday to Monday,' Peter Turi, the head of the firm, Legimentok head, said in a statement.

Five dead, two survivors in Canadian small plane crash

VANCOUVER, August 4, 2008 (AFP) - Five people were dead after a small plane with seven people aboard crashed Sunday in western Canada, public television reported. But two others survived the accident.

The Grumman Goose aircraft disappeared Sunday morning shortly after taking off north of Vancouver, British Columbia.
