Indonesia crash pilot ignored warnings: probe

JAKARTA, Oct 22, 2007 (AFP) - The pilot of an Indonesian jet that crash-landed in March, killing 21 people, ignored repeated warnings not to land, a final report into the disaster said Monday.

The Garuda Indonesia Boeing 737 slammed hard onto the runway in Yogyakarta on March 7, careened off the end of the air strip into rice paddies and burst into flames.

Twenty-one people, including five Australians, were killed among the 133 passengers and seven crew on board.

Four dead in Russian helicopter accident

MOSCOW, Oct 21, 2007 (AFP) - A US-built helicopter crashed in an isolated part of Siberia on Sunday killing four people, authorities were quoted as saying.

The wreckage of the helicopter was found by a forest guard in a wooded region about 400 kilometres (250 miles) south of the city of Kemerovo, news agencies quoted Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov as saying.

The bodies of the pilot and of three passengers were found nearby. None were immediately identified and an investigation was started into the cause of the accident.

Canada plane crash pilot was 82

VANCOUVER, Canada, Oct 21, 2007 (AFP) - A pilot who died when his light airplane crashed into a ninth-floor suburban apartment was an 82-year old man who had been flying since he was a teenager, police said Saturday.

The six-seater Piper Seneca aircraft ploughed right into the apartment in a densely populated residential suburb of Vancouver just after taking off on Friday, injuring two people inside.

Police said the pilot had more than 60 years of flying experience, having started when he was 18.

Small plane crashes into building in Canada

MONTREAL, Oct 19, 2007 (AFP) - A small plane crashed into a building Friday outside the Canadian Pacific coast city of Vancouver, local media reported.

The plane was circling above Richmond, a densely populated suburb of Vancouver, before plunging into a building, CBC television reported.

Several ambulances were at the scene of the crash, but no casualties were immediately reported.

The aircraft had taken off from Vancouver International Airport.
