BANGKOK, Oct 19, 2007 (AFP) - A Canadian schoolteacher accused of sexually abusing young boys across Southeast Asia did not resist arrest Friday but has said almost nothing to investigators, Thai police said.

Christopher Paul Neil, 32, only confirmed his name, age and nationality when he was arrested on Friday in Thailand's third-largest city Nakhon Ratchasima, police said.

'The suspect was quiet. He wasn't agitated, he didn't say anything at all,' Lieutenant General Pongsapat Pongcharoen told reporters.

Amy Winehouse fined in Norway for drugs possession

OSLO, Oct 19, 2007 (AFP) - Norwegian police briefly arrested and then fined British soul singer Amy Winehouse for possessing and using marijuana, a lawyer working with the police in Bergen said Friday.

'She spent a few hours in custody from Thursday evening to early Friday, she got a fine and then she was released,' Lars Lothe told AFP.

'The case is over for us,' he added. Winehouse was fined 500 euros (714 dollars).

The singer was due to perform in Bergen, in the west of Norway, on Friday.

Rwandan wanted for genocide arrested in France

LYON, France, Oct 18, 2007 (AFP) - A Rwandan wanted for his alleged role in the country's 1994 genocide has been arrested in France, Interpol announced Thursday.

Dominique Ntawukuriryayo, a former sub-prefect in Rwanda, had been on a list of people wanted by the international police agency since November 2006.

He was arrested by French police in Carcassonne in the southwest of France, although the exact date of his arrest was not released.

Myanmar frees top actors arrested over protests

YANGON, Oct 18, 2007 (AFP) - Military-run Myanmar has freed the country's top comedian Zaganar and a leading actor who had been arrested for supporting Buddhist monks in anti-government protests, a source said Thursday.

Zaganar, actor Kyaw Thu and the latter's wife were freed late Wednesday in Yangon, one of their colleagues told AFP.

'They were released yesterday evening,' he said, declining to give further details.

Mauritania questions five Al-Al Qaeda suspects

NOUAKCHOTT, Oct 17, 2007 (AFP) - Mauritanian police probing the Al-Al Qaeda network in north Africa are questioning five suspects, a police source said on Wednesday.

The five were arrested on Tuesday in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott 'on suspicion of having links with the Al-Al Qaeda network in north Africa. At least three of them are dangerous,' said a police official speaking on condition of anonymity.

Around half a dozen others were also questioned but have been released, the official said.
