British court jails mother who bit son

LONDON, Sept 23, 2008 (AFP) - A mother was jailed by a British court Tuesday after biting her five-year-old son in a 'revenge' attack because he had hurt his baby sister.

Asked why she did it, the 28-year-old mother-of-two said: 'I don't know. Probably that he hurt his sister, so he's got to be hurt.

Brother of SLeone drug accused complains of abuse

FREETOWN, August 29, 2008 (AFP) - The brother of one of almost two dozen people arrested in Sierra Leone over the country's biggest ever cocaine haul alleged Friday that they were being abused in detention.

Oumar Farouk Sesay sent a petition complaining of 'inhuman treatment and violation of the right of the prisoners' to Sierra Leone's human rights commission.

Love row forces Swiss army head to tender resignation

GENEVA, July 25, 2008 (AFP) - The head of the Swiss army, Roland Nef, handed in his resignation on Friday after being suspended in a furore over his alleged rough treatment of a former lover.

A statement from the Swiss government said it had 'taken into account' Nef's resignation and would address the issue during its next session.
