LISBON, Aug 29, 2007 (AFP) - Portuguese giants Benfica are tracking Real Madrid's young striker Ronaldo Saldado, portuguese newspaper A Bola said Wednesday.

The 22-year-old's agent Alberto Toldra told the newspaper that he had received an offer from Benfica.

'(Benfica) are prepared to pay up to 12 million euros ... and will offer him a pay rise,' said A Bola.

Saldado, though, has recently signed a contract tying him down to Real until 2012.

MADRID, July 27, 2007 (AFP) - Benfica captain Simao Sabrosa, who had been targeted by Liverpool, was officially unveiled on Friday as a player of Spanish Primera Liga side Atletico Madrid for the next four seasons.

'I am going to work hard to help the club get where it should get, which is to top the league and win titles,' the 27-year-old Portuguese international told reporters after he passed a medical examination.

'I am going to play as I did in Portugal so that Atletico is the best,' he added.

LISBON, July 26, 2007 (AFP) - Benfica captain Simao is set to move to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in a 20 million euro deal, his Portuguese club announced on Thursday.

The transfer, which is subject to Simao passing a medical, involves Benfica taking an option on two unspecified Atletico players.

Local media reports suggest Simao, who is expected in Madrid on Thursday to wrap up the move, has been offered a four year contract in what is a record transfer for Benfica.

LISBON, July 24, 2007 (AFP) - Benfica goalkeeper Jose Moreira is set to undergo surgery on his left knee sidelining him for an undetermined amount of time, the Portuguese club said on Tuesday.

It is another big blow for the shotstopper, who picked up the injury in pre-season training, after being ruled out for months during the 2005-2006 season following an operation on his right knee.
