'Why Did I Get Married' top North American movie

LOS ANGELES, Oct 14, 2007 (AFP) - Comedy-drama 'Why Did I Get Married?' by director Tyler Perry and starring pop singer Janet Jackson was the top North American movie this weekend, taking in 21.5 million dollars, a Hollywood monitor reported Sunday.

The film about the difficulty of maintaining a solid love relationship in modern times rose to the top position on the first week in theaters, pushing aside other contenders.

Exhibitor Relations Co. reported that Walt Disney's football comedy 'The Game Plan' was a distant second with 11.5 million dollars in receipts.

US movies smash 4 bln mark for summer: 'Halloween'takes weekend honors

LOS ANGELES, Sept 2, 2007 (AFP) - Hollywood has raked in a record 4.2 billion dollars this summer despite fears that videos and piracy are killing the industry, estimates showed Sunday, as the newest 'Halloween' horror-pic topped the North American box office for the Labor Day weekend.

The three-day weekend that marks the end of summer break was expected to smash the previous Labor Day holiday mark with a 146 million dollar take for all films -- 120.4 million for the top 12 -- according to estimates for the Friday-Monday period by Exhibitor Relations, which tracks ticket sales.

Camp firemen best `Harry Potter` at North American box office

LOS ANGELES, July 23, 2007 (AFP) - The fake gay firemen of 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry' topped 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' at North American cinemas over the weekend, according to final results Monday.

In its opening weekend the comedy starring Adam Sandler as a fireman faking a gay relationship with his co-worker (Kevin James) for insurance purposes pulled in 34.2 million dollars, according to Exhibitor Relations.

`Chuck and Larry` climb to top of North American box office

LOS ANGELES, July 22, 2007 (AFP) - 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry' and its fake gay firemen topped 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' with 34.8 million dollars on its first weekend, estimates showed Sunday.

The comedy starring Adam Sandler as a fireman faking a gay relationship with his co-worker (Chuck Levine) for insurance purposes, beat out the fifth installment of the long-running 'Harry Potter' series, which raked in 32.2 million dollars, according to estimates from Variety.com.
